Is it Time for a New Commercial Heating System?

Gas-BurnerThis is just about the worst time of year to have your commercial heating system start to malfunction on you. That’s why it’s important that you determine whether or not it’s time to replace your current commercial heating system with a new one. You don’t want to keep relying on a system that might fail under the strain. So, have a look at some of the signs that it’s time to install a new commercial heating system in your office.

Higher Than Normal Monthly Operating Costs

You’re naturally going to pay more to operate your heating system during the winter. However, you should start to become worried if your heating system starts to cost more to operate from month to month without a corresponding increase in usage. If you notice that happening, you should call a professional for help as soon as possible.

This often happens as the wear and tear on the system becomes severe enough to threaten the efficiency of it. The system will lose efficiency over time, eventually becoming forced to operate for longer periods in order to compensate. This longer operating time will contribute the largest amount of extra cost to your monthly bills. If this is the reason that your heating system is costing more than it normally does to operate, the best you can do is replace it.

Constant Repair Problems

It’s pretty normal to need to repair your commercial heating system at least once every few years. However, you should consult with a professional if you start to have your heating system break down multiple times a year. That kind of constant need for repairs is often an indication that your heating system is reaching the end of its life. The wear and tear on the various parts of the system causes them to start breaking down in very quick succession. Once this sort of cascade failure starts happening, the best thing that you can do is replace the system entirely. You can keep replacing the system one part at a time if you want, but it’ll be much cheaper in the long run to just install an entirely new heater.

Old Age

The average commercial heating system will last around 10-15 years. This will change a little bit, depending on individual circumstances, but it won’t change all that much. If your commercial heating system is over the age of 15, it’s likely already started to accumulate issues like those we’ve already discussed. The cost-effectiveness of the system will continue to decline as it gets older, making it more and more expensive to maintain. Make sure that you call a professional to evaluate your system if it’s within that age range. You might be able to get a few more good years out of it, but it’s more likely that you’ll need to replace it if you want to save money.
